Rivers, waterways, lakes and springs for sports fishing in Gemona
Gemona del Friuli and its surroundings abound in lakes and waterways, constituting a beautiful natural landscape. Lago dei Tre Comuni and Lago di Ragogna lakes, the Tagliamento and Ledra rivers and the springs of Bars are particularly important for fishing.
Having fun the ecological way
This highly varied natural scenario is ideal for relaxing and practising all forms of fishing: spin fishing, carp fishing and fly fishing.
The territory is divided into zones and regulated by specific fishing regulations to meet the needs of everyone who wants to spend a day relaxing surrounded by greenery. There are no-kill fly-fishing areas, a paradise for fans of this sport.
Sports fishing clubs and associations abound in the area, which is also home to the region of Friuli Venezia Giulia's first fishing school, which can answer any questions and offer some basic instruction for anyone wanting to try their hand at fishing in the Gemona area.
The Tagliamento River
The Tagliamento River is one of Europe’s biggest rivers with no major water channelling works, crossing the entire region of Friuli Venezia Giulia in 178 kilometres, frequently forming a natural boundary with the bordering region of Veneto. The course of the river is unchanged by human hands, and still appears in all its beauty with its natural braided streams. The middle part of the Tagliamento River takes on a truly unusual form with spectacular braided streams: independent river beds cutting across one another to form a breath-taking geological scene.
The Ledra
The Ledra is a waterway about 45 km long, originating in a perennial spring and flowing through little villages and uncontaminated natural settings. Its clear, cool waters are full of oxygen thanks to its particular chemical and physical properties. Writer Ippolito Nievo describes the part of Friuli Venezia Giulia through which the Ledra flows as “a little compendium of the universe”. And this is true in hydro-geological terms, too!
The springs of Bars, located in the Osoppo plains, flow crystal clear all year long, offering an attractive and easily accessible place in which to admire the typical vegetation of the plains and wetlands.
